BUILDING PLANES AND LEARNING STANDARD COSTING: A STUDENT-CENTERED APPROACH

Driven by a continuing debate about the management accounting career evolution and influence of instructional strategies on student performance, this study focuses active learning in managerial courses. Based Kolb’s experiential theory, quasi-experiment was developed to assess effect guided aviation manufacturing hands-on team-based case teaching standard costing business administration majors. Evidence gathered from four cohorts cost undergraduate course large public research university Brazil. A total 219 students participated study. The instructor taught all groups under identical conditions weekly basis. Data processing included descriptive statistics, paired test (experimental hypothesis), wordclouds. In addition, experts (faculty field) validated results. Results are robust (Cohen’s d 1.026) indicate that experimental group demonstrate significant pre- post-test improvement exam compared control group, with size. Contributions aimed at transferring favors approach real life development social skills (student builds, interacts manages an activity working teams); positive experience may encourage faculty program administrators use more strategies; preparing for market, developing professionals demanded skills.
